In an update to the Florida case, Romero was deemed incompetent to stand trial and was remanded to a mental health institution. Also, on the day we reported of Romeros Florida case, June 10th, authorities say he brutally attacked Brandt Diaz, 39, of Fort Myers at about 3:45am in the Lee County Jail.
On July 25th the court ordered Romero remanded to the Florida State Hospital, a psychiatric hospital in Chattahoochee, owned by the state. Romero will remain at the hospital until he is fit for trial.
If and when Romero is ever deemed fit for trial he faces the possibility of the death penalty.
In the Inkster case Romero is suspected to have stabbed his roommate over 40 times resulting in his death. In that case his girlfriend told authorities that Romero told her he has “no memory of the events.”
