The Second District Special Investigation Section is continuing to investigate this shooting.
Further investigation has revealed that both victims remain hospitalized in stable condition.
It has been determined that the suspect vehicle followed the victims on to the freeway and this was not a random shooting. Detectives are continuing to process evidence and work with victims and other technology to determine a motive and identify the suspect (s).

➡️ January 3, 2026 **2:15pm EST: The freeway has reopened.
Detroit, MI — Michigan State Police say two people remain in critical condition following a shooting on the northbound Lodge Freeway Saturday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 30-year-old male ride-share driver from Hamtramck entered the northbound Lodge Freeway from Livernois Avenue when his vehicle was shot multiple times by an unknown suspect vehicle.
The driver was able to stop near Meyers Road. The suspect vehicle fled the scene and continued northbound.

Both the driver and his 17-year-old male passenger from Detroit sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Michigan State Police say troopers are actively following several investigative leads and are searching the freeway for evidence. The investigation remains ongoing.
“Troopers are currently working to determine the motive for this shooting,” said Mike Shaw. “They are using technology along the victims’ route to attempt to identify a suspect vehicle.”
