DELTA COUNTY, MI — A 22-year-old woman is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say she resisted troopers and bit a Michigan State Police officer during an animal neglect investigation at a property in Cornell Township.

Brianna Makosky, of Cornell, was arraigned Thursday in 94th District Court on three felony counts of resisting, obstructing, and assaulting a police officer. A judge set her bond at $4,000 cash/surety. She remains lodged at the Delta County Jail as of Friday morning.
According to Michigan State Police, troopers from the Gladstone Post began investigating Tuesday after receiving a report of possible animal neglect at a residence on County Road 426. After an initial investigation, authorities obtained a search warrant and executed it Wednesday afternoon.
Troopers said they discovered several deceased animals on the property, including cats, rabbits, pigs, and goats. Live animals were also found in poor condition. Authorities seized 14 cats, 12 rabbits, and one sheep that were described as malnourished and unhealthy. MSP was assisted by Delta Animal Shelter in removing the animals from the property.
Police say Makosky became combative while troopers were conducting the search. According to a news release, she refused to follow lawful commands and began interfering with the investigation.
During the encounter, authorities said Makosky bit one trooper on the wrist. She was then informed she was under arrest but continued to struggle with officers and attempted to bite another trooper before being taken into custody at about 4:06p.m. Wednesday.
The animal neglect investigation remains ongoing and will be submitted to the Delta County Prosecutor’s Office for review once complete.
Makosky is scheduled to appear in court again on Feb. 19.
She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
