Vehicle Erupts in Flames After Stop Sign Crash in Monroe | Patrol Cam Video

MONROE, Mich. — A serious two-vehicle crash that ended with one car fully engulfed in flames sent three people to the hospital Friday afternoon, according to Monroe Public Safety. The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on January 2, 2026, at the intersection of East Third Street and Kentucky Avenue.

Investigators say a 2017 black Buick Envision traveling southbound on Kentucky Avenue failed to stop at a posted stop sign and struck a 2007 silver Honda Accord that was traveling eastbound on East Third Street.

After the impact, the Buick caught fire and quickly became fully engulfed. The driver was able to exit the vehicle before flames spread, and crews from the City of Monroe Fire extinguished the fire.

The Buick driver was evaluated at the scene but refused hospital transport. All three occupants of the Honda were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Police cited the Buick driver for disobeying a stop sign, and additional charges related to no insurance were submitted to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office.

Due to the crash location, Norfolk Southern train traffic was temporarily halted to ensure scene safety.
