Authorities have identified the man who drowned early Sunday morning in Lake St. Clair as Demari Dior Morgan, 27, of Detroit. Investigators say Morgan had been visiting friends and family who rented an Airbnb property for the weekend on the lake. Around 2:48 a.m., Morgan went onto the dock and later fell into the water.
New Baltimore police officers and firefighters responded but were initially unable to locate him. Multiple agencies joined in the search, including the New Baltimore Police patrol boat, Harrison Township Fire Department, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Morgan was later found by New Baltimore and Harrison Township fire personnel on the lake bottom beneath the dock where he is believed to have fallen in.
Authorities say alcohol is suspected to have been a contributing factor in the drowning. At this time, no foul play is suspected, pending the final autopsy report from the Macomb County Medical Examiner.
