Westland police have arrested a 37-year-old woman accused of striking and killing a pedestrian and fleeing the scene during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.
According to a press release from the Westland Police Department, officers responded around 4:00 a.m. to reports of a man lying in the roadway on Grand Traverse near Belding Court. A 61-year-old Westland man was found unconscious, and despite lifesaving efforts by officers and paramedics, he was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.
Investigators later located the driver at her residence, where Jasmine Wynn of Westland was arrested and charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office with operating while intoxicated causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death, and resisting or obstructing a police officer.
Wynn was arraigned Jan. 3 before 36th District Court Judge William Burton and released on a $10,000 personal bond with an alcohol tether. She is scheduled to appear in the 18th District Court on January 15 for a probable cause conference.
